A group is a combination of the members of the dimension which make higher-level categories.
In Tableau, Groups are a way to combine related dimension members into higher-level categories. By creating groups, you can organize and analyze data at a more aggregated level, making it easier to understand and visualize.
Here’s how you can create groups in Tableau:
- Select the Dimensions: Choose the dimension members you want to group together.
- Right-click and Choose “Group”: Right-click on the selected dimension members and choose the “Group” option from the context menu.
- Name the Group: Give a name to the group to identify it.
- Adjust Grouping: Tableau may automatically group the selected members based on common characteristics. You can modify the grouping as needed.
- Click OK: Once you are satisfied with the grouping, click OK.
Groups are useful for simplifying visualizations, creating custom hierarchies, and improving the overall readability of your data. Keep in mind that creating groups in Tableau is a reversible process – you can always ungroup data if needed.
