How to create a Calculated Field in Tableau?

  • Click on the drop-down option to the right of dimension on the data pane and go to the create options and select the calculated field to open the calculation editor.
  • Name the calculated field and create a formula.

To create a Calculated Field in Tableau, follow these steps:

  1. Open your Tableau workbook and navigate to the worksheet where you want to create the calculated field.
  2. In the Data pane on the left side of the screen, right-click in the empty space and choose “Create Calculated Field.”
  3. In the “Create Calculated Field” dialog box that appears, give your calculated field a meaningful name in the “Name” field.
  4. In the calculation editor below, you can enter a formula for your calculated field. You can use mathematical operators, functions, and references to existing fields in your data.
  5. After entering the formula, click the “OK” button to create the calculated field.

Now, your calculated field will appear in the Data pane, and you can drag it to the appropriate shelf or use it in your analysis just like any other field.

Keep in mind that the specific steps may vary slightly depending on the version of Tableau you are using, but the general process is as described above.
